Weaknesses with Traditional Control Systems

Using traditional mechanically controlled methods of locking and sealing offers little in the way of real control and or accountability.

Some of the issues to consider:-

Locking

  • Are you happy allowing the driver to control the access to your high value assets during the delivery?
  • Can you determine if a padlock was locked for the entire route?
  • If not, who opened it? At what time?
  • Was the opening recorded in the manifest?
  • How many keys have been made for this padlock?
  • Who has access to them? Can you get them all back and control their management?
  • Could your current security solution be compromised (picked) without being detected?

Sealing

  • What happens when a seal is broken?
  • Can you identify when it was broken, where and by whom?
  • Do you know how long the cargo was at risk once the seal had been broken?
  • Is the seal product tamper resistant? Could it be duplicated?
  • Does the seal number match the number on the manifest?
  • Can you eliminate collusion in your system?
