£50,000 trail of destruction left by a runaway rubbish truck.

A runaway recycling truck left a £50,000 trail of wreckage in Clydach Valley village of Ynysybwl, near Pontypridd, - when it ran out of control down a steep hill.

The wagon was collecting green rubbish bags when it suddenly careered through the village, smashed into six cars and a demolished a telegraph pole.

"I had just got off the wagon and, as I turned to throw two bags on, the wagon started rolling down the road.” Commented the 23 yr old recycling worker Dean Leather.

Theft of recycling vehicle may affect glass and can bank emptying.

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council has announced that there may be some disruption to its glass and can recycling bank emptying services over the next few weeks following the theft of one of its recycling collection vehicles.

The heavy goods vehicle, which is one of three specialist recycling collection vehicles owned jointly by Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells borough councils, was stolen from the Vale Rise, Tonbridge depot run by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council's refuse and recycling contractor Veolia Environmental Services on Thursday 27 March 2008.

The vehicle contained expensive specialist lifting equipment and was used to empty glass and can recycling banks across the boroughs of Tonbridge and Malling and Tunbridge Wells.

A 43-year-old bin man broke his leg when the lorry he was driving crashed into a house in Ramsey the Isle of Man.

Strike Threat over Bin Lorry Theft

A union representing refuse collectors threatened strike action in a dispute over disciplinary action taken against a bin lorry driver.

The demotion of a driver who had his refuse lorry stolen and vandalised are behind the action. This particular incident involved a street cleaning vehicle being driven away by opportunistic thieves, at great risk to the public.  It happened after the vehicle was left with the engine running and unattended for over five minutes.

Bin lorries worth £300,000 stolen.

Three commercial refuse trucks valued at £100,000 each have been stolen from a compound in Kent. Police said the blue and white vehicles were taken from the Eurolink site in Sittingbourne between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.

Stolen Refuse Vehicle Causes Crash Chaos

Police closed a number of streets in Welshpool to traffic for five hours after a stolen refuse vehicle caused chaos in the town. After taking the vehicle from a council depot the 21-year-old man crashed into a car, traffic lights and a number of shops. Two pedestrians also suffered minor injuries in the incident.
