Tesco have taken another significant step in their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint, by agreeing a deal with Maple Fleet Services to install the ‘Cat's Eye Tyre Pressure Monitoring System,' to their double-deck trailer fleet. Cat's Eye is a mechanical tyre pressure monitoring system that fits directly onto single or dual tyres, operators can identify any drop in tyre pressure with a simple glance at the Cat's Eye visual indicator. Small pressure losses are indicated by a partial opening of the ‘eye' while more severe losses by a fully open ‘eye.' “We're delighted that Tesco have committed to installing the Cat's Eye Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. They have recognised the green credentials of Cat's Eye, which contributes towards their own commitment of reducing energy use and cutting emissions. The cost savings that can be uncovered through reduced fuel consumption and increased tyre life also mean the payback period is a matter of months,” commented Jonathan Richards, Marketing Manager for Maple Fleet Services. After a favourable performance during an initial trial period, Tesco are now rolling out the product across more than 400 of their double-deck trailer fleet. “During our original trial we found that Cat's Eye assisted our drivers when performing their daily checks to quickly and accurately identify any tyre pressure losses, which in turn helped to reduce fuel consumption. We are now fitting Cat's Eye to our double-deck trailer fleet and expect to see this trend replicated,” said Cliff Smith, Fleet Engineering Manager for Tesco. Cat's Eye can be fitted to single or dual tyres between 60-130psi, they can also be easily retro-fitted.
