Understanding IQ

Take the IQ Test

The IQ test is aimed to address some of the common questions raised when considering the use of this system. We have added stock answers to the questions raised.

If there are any other questions that you feel need addressing then please feel free to contact us for a more detailed explanation on how the system could be used to meet your own specific needs.

Q1 How many vehicles, trailers or containers would I need to deploy the IQ solution onto and how would we manage the IQ solutions once deployed?

Answer

There are no restrictions on the number of vehicles required to operate the IQ system – although the IQ technology is best suited to fleets of greater than 10.

There are two options available for the management of the IQ systems.

A “Customer Managed” option whereby the end user operates and controls all aspects of the IQ system, having been fully trained to do so.

Alternatively you can opt for a fully “Managed System” Maple Fleet Services will manage the online software, control the issuing / reconfiguring of RFID key cards and generate data reports.

Note that the administering of emergency override numbers can only be done via a security protocol and issued through Maple Fleet Services.

Q2 What are the cost and operational benefits of utilising the IQ solutions on my fleet of mobile assets?

Answer

An organisation utilising the IQ solutions can achieve operational cost benefits in many areas. For example all IQ products can programmed to display an electronic seal number, so as well as saving actual physical sealing product costs, seal management and control procedures could be streamlined. A reduction in manpower and an increase in control could quite quickly be seen.

Shrinkage or internal thefts from within an organisation costs millions in lost profits and could easily be reduced. IQ offers total transparency of who, when and where an assets has been accessed, making everyone involved within the supply chain accountable for their actions in or around a designated asset area. Consequently it becomes much easier to identify and eliminate weaknesses in your internal supply chain, reducing losses from within and deterring thefts externally to you organisation.

Increasing vehicle security is the obvious area which can be improved upon and adopting a proactive approach to your own or your 3PL provider’s fleet could reduce losses of your assets or give you the competitive advantage to maintain or secure new business opportunities.

Q3 Could we obtain favourable insurance products if we can show that 'risk' has been mitigated by using the IQ solutions, while the goods are in transit?

Answer

IQ solutions offer the user the opportunity to mitigate risk, while your or your client’s assets are in transit. Maple Fleet Services are constantly working alongside many of the UK’s leading insurance companies to offer locking solutions that could go part way to reduce risk and lower insurance premiums.

Q4 Could I integrate the IQ solutions with my current assets telematics or would I need to upgrade my current system?

Answer

Maple Fleet Services are proud to work with GE Veriwise, providing the logistics market with GPS access controlled locking solutions, directly linked to our IQ’s RS232 interface port.

However, we also provide an entry level I/O interface that will allow a telematics provider, under set conditions, to link to our IQ locking solutions. Some IQ features may be restricted with this option.

Q5 What additional operational features would an upgrade bring to benefit our organisation?

Answer

There are numerous advantages in upgrading to the integrated Maple Fleet Service and GE VeriWise solution. Some of these include being able to:-

  • Sending locking / unlocking numbers remotely, ensuring only the necessary personnel or even your customer is aware of the access codes to the trailer or vehicle.
  • The ability to remotely switch your asset between locking modes on the IQ units. This operational flexibility allows high value goods to be delivered securely, while lower value loads can be delivered with a more appropriate level of security. A premium could be charged for secure loads.
  • Time dependant enabled access, so should GPS coverage be lost then access codes or RFID cards will only function for set periods of time before expiring.
  • The ability to identify if the IQ solutions have been locked by Pin numbers, RFID cards or emergency access numbers.
Q6 Will I be able to clearly identify and control who has access to my assets within the logistics chain?

Answer

Access to your assets can be controlled in 3 simple ways. Access can be granted using programmable RFID key cards, Pin Codes and remotely via a telematics device.

The different modes of access can be used to identify who, when and where your asset is being accessed.

Combining the modes of access, allows additional layers of control to be provided, GEO fences created and ‘point of delivery access’ enabled.

Q7 Is there an evidential audit trial showing who was accountable in the event of a loss?

Answer

Access and evidence of tamper is shown on the IQ indicator panel. All events are also recorded in the IQ memory for later analysis. Providing date, time and place of an event localises the incident, allowing a response protocol to be commenced. When connected via a telematic product incidents will be known in real time.

Q8 My logistics operations requires a greater flexibility of trailer use, both in the UK and across Europe, can we change how the IQ solutions operate to meet the changing demands of my different clients?

Answer

The IQ technology is very flexible and can be programmed to meet most operational scenarios within the logistics fraternity on regional, pan-European and International deliveries.

Depending on which telematics solutions the IQ locking is integrated with, assets can be switched remotely between operating modes, offering security on some deliveries and not for others. This means an asset can be continually used within a logistics network in its most appropriate security configuration.

Q9 What methods of point of deliver access can we utilise and is there some added security value that our customers can benefit from?

Answer

There are three modes to access your asset as noted in the response to Q6. The security benefit, being that control of unlocking the trailer can be given directly to your customer, in the form of pin codes, RFID cards or through a GPS signal controlled via a 3rd party monitoring centre.

Limiting who has access to this type of security information during despatch, removes the potential for collusion within an organisation, as well as making the individuals less vulnerable to external intimidation.

Q10 Can we integrate the IQ systems into other back office systems?

Answer

The IQ solutions make use of a web based management system used to control and program RFID cards, set access parameters, audit seal / lock activity and generate asset access reports. Cross referencing these reports with telematic or tachograph data provides levels of control showing who, when and where assets are accessed throughout the logistics supply chain.
